What is the wisdom behind growing the beard, and why will the people of Paradise be beardless?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The rationale mentioned in the texts for the command to let beards grow is to differ from the polytheists. A servant must submit and surrender to the Sharia ruling even if they do not know the wisdom behind it, for not every Sharia ruling has a rationale known to people. The most appropriate thing to say regarding the rationale for Sharia rulings is that the Sharia has brought them. The prohibition and command of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is the rationale for the believer. Inquiring about the wisdom behind Sharia rulings is permissible if the intention is to gain knowledge. However, if the intention is to comply with the ruling only if the rationale becomes clear, and otherwise not, then the inquiry is Haram. As for the people of Paradise being beardless (Amrad), the wisdom behind it is that this is more perfect in beauty and handsomeness.
