What is the religious ruling on lengthening the beard, and is it true that its length increases one's faith?

Growing a beard is a Prophetic Sunnah, both in practice and in word. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded it in several hadiths. The majority of jurists (Hanafis, Malikis, and Hanbalis) have ruled that shaving it is forbidden. For the Shafi'is, there are two opinions (prohibition and dislike). Shaving the beard is forbidden according to the sound opinion, which is supported by the hadiths and the established Sunnah. The beard adorns men, and contrary to what some might imagine, medicine proves that the beard preserves the freshness of the face, and shaving it causes the loss of a substance that leads to facial wrinkles and dryness.
