It is permissible to wean a child before the completion of two years if it does not harm the child, and if it is by agreement and consultation between the parents, based on the Almighty's saying: "Mothers shall nurse their children for two whole years, for those who wish to complete the nursing." And His saying: "And if they both desire weaning by mutual consent and consultation, there is no blame upon them." There is no validity to the claim that weaning is obligatory one week before the completion of two years; rather, it is permissible to nurse the child until the completion of two years or more.
