Is dhikr better than jihad?

The remembrance of Allah Almighty is one of the best deeds by which a servant can draw closer to his Lord. It is the best and purest of deeds, the highest in rank, and better than spending gold and silver, and better than striving in the way of Allah. It has been narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you of the best of your deeds, and the purest of them with your King, and the highest of them in your ranks, and better for you than spending gold and silver, and better for you than meeting your enemy and striking their necks and them striking your necks?" They said: "Yes." He said: "The remembrance of Allah Almighty." It was also narrated: "No human being has done a deed more saving from punishment than the remembrance of Allah." Even jihad does not surpass the remembrance of Allah unless it is a continuous jihad until the sword is broken. And Allah knows best.
