According to the Quran and/or Sunnah, why did Allah create humankind?

Allah created jinn and mankind to worship and monotheize Him, to obey His commands and abstain from His prohibitions. Allah Almighty said: (And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me). Among the conditions for the validity of worship are believing in His Messenger and emulating him. Allah Almighty said: (There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern).
