If parents command a reprehensible act, must I obey them?

Obeying one's parents is obligatory in matters that do not involve disobedience to Allah, and in matters that benefit them without harming the child. If a parent commands their child to do something that is Islamically disliked (makruh), the child must weigh the benefits and harms. If there is no benefit for the parents in the child doing the disliked act, then the child is permitted to refrain from it, with gentleness and tact, and without confrontation. However, if refraining from the disliked act would anger the parents, then it is permissible to do it, and the dislike (karahah) is lifted in that instance.
