If you have wronged someone, you must seek their absolution by returning their right to them, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever has wronged his brother concerning his honor or anything else, let him seek his absolution today before there is no dinar or dirham." The rights of people must be fulfilled. The pillars of repentance are: ceasing the sin, regretting it, and resolving not to return to it. If the sin involves a human right, a fourth pillar is added: seeking absolution from the wronged person. If you have returned the rights you took, you have fulfilled your obligation, and you must offer sincere repentance and supplicate for the wronged person.
