The preponderant opinion is that it is obligatory by custom, but marriage is not for her service, rather it is for the exchange of benefits between the spouses. The wife’s obedience is restricted to marriage and its related matters. She must maintain ties of kinship with her parents, and the husband should not prevent her from visiting them.
