What is the religious ruling on a man cursing his father, and does it necessitate a financial penalty?

Abusing one's father is a grave sin and a disobedience that Allah has forbidden. It is among the greatest of major sins. The perpetrator must hasten to repent to Allah, treat his parents kindly, and seek their رضا (رضا). There is no financial penalty for this sin, but if he does not repent, the ruler (ولِيّ الأَمْر) will reprimand and punish him.
