The Day of the Greater Pilgrimage (Yawm al-Hajj al-Akbar) is the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr) according to the majority of scholars. This is because it encompasses many rituals of Hajj and because it is the night of the standing (at Arafat). This is based on the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) saying: "The Day of Sacrifice, this is the Day of the Greater Pilgrimage." Some scholars are of the view that it is the Day of Arafat.
