Can zakat be given directly to the needy without the mediation of charitable organizations?

Charitable organizations were established to facilitate and regulate the distribution of Zakat to its rightful recipients. If the Zakat payer is able to disburse it himself, there is no need to give it to these organizations, especially if he has deserving relatives. However, if he does not have relatives, it is preferable to entrust it to reliable charitable organizations due to their trustworthiness, efficiency, and expertise in Zakat distribution.
