What is the Shar'i ruling regarding a husband who curses his wife with obscene words and leaves the responsibility of the children to her, knowing that he prays and is committed to his religious duties?

Protecting the honor and reputation of Muslims is one of the objectives of Islam. Therefore, the Shari'ah has forbidden slander (Qadhf) and made it a major sin that necessitates the prescribed punishment of Qadhf (eighty lashes) for the slanderer. In addition, the slanderer is disqualified from giving testimony and is deemed a transgressor (fasiq), deserving of painful torment in this world and the Hereafter, unless he provides incontrovertible proof such as an admission, pregnancy, the testimony of four witnesses, or mutual imprecation (Mula'anah) in the case of a wife. Slander is even more forbidden when it involves a wife, whom the Prophet (peace be upon him) enjoined good treatment of, and whom Allah commanded to be treated kindly.
