The wife's maintenance, clothing, and housing are obligatory upon the husband, even if the wife is wealthy. If the husband does not treat his wives equally in maintenance, clothing, and turns, he must repent and be just between them, unless one of them waives her right. It is not permissible to count al-Mal (charity on wealth) among what a woman spends on herself and her home, because these expenses are obligatory upon the husband. Zakat is for the poor and needy.
