Is it permissible to name a newborn with a kunya, such as "Abu Dharr" or "Abu Ubaidah"?

There is no harm in naming a newborn with a kunya (agnomen/nickname), as some of the Salaf (early Muslims) were named with them, such as: Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith. And it became so prevalent for some of them that they were only known by them, such as: Abu Dharr, Abu Ubaydah, and Abu Musa.
