Either the oath is a laghw (unintended or vain oath), in which case there is no accountability for those who swore it, or it is a mun'aqidah (binding oath), in which case the one who swore it must offer an expiation (kaffarat yamin) if they break it. The expiation for an oath is feeding ten needy persons, clothing them, or freeing a slave. If one cannot find these, then it is fasting for three days.
