Either the oath is a laghw (unintended or vain oath), in which case there is no accountability for those who swore it, or it is a mun'aqidah (binding oath), in which case the one who swore it must offer an expiation (kaffarat ) if they break it. The expiation for an oath is feeding ten needy persons, clothing them, or freeing a slave. If one cannot find these, then it is fasting for three days.
