What is the ruling on portraying prophets and companions in films and television series?

The Assembly affirms its previous decision prohibiting the production, promotion, and viewing of films and television series that portray prophets and companions, as this may lead to their disparagement and mockery. There is no justification for claiming that these films help in knowing them and their biographies, for Allah’s Book is sufficient for that. This prohibition is consistent with the fatwas of numerous Islamic bodies. The prophets and companions are favored and honored, and their portrayal leads to harm and doubt regarding their states, and may expose them to inappropriate roles. Calling to Islam must be done through legitimate means, and the pretexts mentioned for portrayal are rejected because the corruption outweighs the benefit.
