Is it permissible for the husband to divorce his wife who neglects her home and children, abuses him and his family with words and actions, persists in harming him, seizes his money, and rejects all attempts at reconciliation and mediation?

If the wife is disobedient (nashiz), the Sharia steps for disciplining her must be followed before divorce. If she does not return to what is right, then it is better to divorce her, as there is no good in staying with a wife who does not recognize her husband's rights and his guardianship. Nor should the husband keep a ill-mannered wife under his marital bond.

The wife is obliged to serve her husband according to common custom. She does not have the right to expel her husband's mother or relatives from his house. Her family is not allowed to incite her to disobey him. She is not allowed to dispose of the furniture in the marital home that she does not own, unless he withholds her obligatory maintenance, in which case she may take what is reasonable.
