It is permissible for a man and a non-mahram woman to speak to each other out of necessity, provided that Islamic guidelines are adhered to. These include the absence of khalwa (private seclusion), tabarruj (ostentatious display), khudu' bil-qawl (softening of speech), and restricting the conversation to the extent of the need, such as an Islamic inquiry, buying and selling, or bearing witness, all while observing the Sharia conditions. It is also permissible for a man to greet women and for women to greet men, as long as there is no fear of fitna (temptation). However, if there is a fear of fitna arising from speaking or greeting, then it is prohibited to prevent corruption.
