Is it permissible for a man to grow out his hair?

It is permissible for a man to lengthen the hair on his head, provided he pays attention to styling it, cleaning it, and taking care of its appearance, without exaggeration or extravagance. Evidence for this is the Prophet's (peace be upon him) prohibition of al-qazaʿ (shaving part of the hair and leaving part of it) and his command (peace be upon him) to honor the hair. However, local customs and traditions must be observed. If lengthening the hair is considered objectionable or is limited to a specific group viewed disparagingly, then men of dignity should not do it.
