Can I be one of the foremost in faith?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The status of the "foremost in faith" (al-sabiqoon al-muqarraboon) is attained by anyone who embodies their characteristics. It is good for a Muslim to have high aspirations in supplication, asking Allah to make him one of them, and to ask Allah for the highest paradise (Firdaws al-A'la). It has been reported that the "foremost" are those for whom happiness preceded them, and their deeds in this world preceded others in righteousness and abandoning sins. Some scholars interpreted them as those who hasten to the mosques, or those who prayed towards both Qiblas, or the people of the Qur'an. Ibn Baz mentioned that the "foremost" are those who have reached the station of Ihsan, which is worshipping Allah as if you see Him.
