The question

Does land that has been defiled become purified if it is washed with impure water, which then mixes with a coloring agent or dirt and dries, while the color remains, taking into account the opinion that land becomes pure by drying, along with experiencing excessive scrupulousness (waswasa) regarding purity?

The answer

The earth and what is connected to it in a fixed manner, such as trees and buildings, become purified by dryness according to many scholars. There is no blame on the one afflicted with waswasa (obsessive thoughts) in acting according to this opinion, for the sake of facilitation and removing hardship. So, if the impurity that is on the earth dries and no trace of its substance remains, then it is judged that it has been removed and the earth is pure, according to this opinion. As for when the substance of the impurity is present, if the impurity is hukmiyyah (not visible), then it is necessary for water to run over it to purify it. And if it is 'ayniyyah (visible), then it is necessary to remove its substance. And we warn against waswasa and indulging in it, for indulging in waswasa leads to great evil.
