Should I offer a sacrifice on behalf of my deceased parents?

The fundamental principle concerning the Udhiyah (sacrifice) is that it is legislated for the living. However, sacrificing on behalf of the deceased falls into three categories:

1. As a follow-up to the living: This is when a man sacrifices on behalf of himself and his household, which includes the deceased among them. This is permissible. 2. According to their wills: This must be executed. 3. As an independent voluntary act: This is permissible, and its reward reaches the deceased.

The Shaykh is of the opinion that singling out the deceased for the Udhiyah is not from the Sunnah, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not do so. It is incorrect what some people do by singling out the deceased for a sacrifice called "Udhiyat al-Hufra" (sacrifice of the grave) or by sacrificing for their deceased without sacrificing for themselves and their families.
