Is it permissible for the husband to prevent his wife from visiting her female relatives at their homes and staying overnight with them?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Among the rights of a husband over his wife is that she should not leave their home except with his permission, and that she should not allow anyone he dislikes to enter his house, due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Let no one whom you dislike tread upon your beds." If the wife leaves without her husband's permission, she is considered disobedient (nashiz) and has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger. It is more appropriate for the husband not to prevent her if he does not fear corruption in her faith or morals. However, if he fears that due to her interactions with others, it is obligatory for him to prevent her in order to safeguard her faith and honor, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "Protect yourselves and your families from a Fire."
