Perhaps the intended meaning of "restricted and unrestricted supplication" is general and specific supplication. Scholars have deemed it commendable to make general supplications and include one's Muslim brethren therein, for supplication, when it is general, benefits all. Among the etiquettes of supplication are humility and secrecy, yearning and awe, reverence and sincerity, hastening to good deeds, and avoiding supplication for sin or cutting off ties of kinship. Allah answers the supplicant in one of three ways: either He hastens his supplication for him, or He stores it for him in the Hereafter, or He diverts from him an equivalent amount of evil.
