Is prolonging the last prostration in prayer for supplication a Sunnah?

Prolonging the last prostration (sujud) in prayer for supplication is not from the Sunnah; rather, it contradicts it. This is because the Sunnah dictates that the actions of prayer should be similar in length, such as the bowing (ruku'), rising from it, prostration, and sitting between the two prostrations, as narrated by Al-Bara' bin 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him). Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymeen pointed out that the proper place for supplication is after the final Tashahhud, before the salutation (taslim), not during prostration. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jibreen also emphasized the absence of evidence for prolonging the last prostration, and that the Ahadith indicate equality among the pillars of prayer.
