What is the ruling on a husband who leaves all the responsibilities of the house and children to his wife, abandons her when she objects, destroys property, and may even beat her; and does the wife have a reward for her patience with him, and does she sin if she complains to her family?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
The husband is religiously obligated to treat his wife kindly, and marital life should be based on understanding and cooperation. A husband who neglects his wife is mistreating the marital relationship, and if the wife is patient, she will be rewarded. The wife mentioning her husband's faults in his absence is considered backbiting, and it is not permissible except for a valid purpose. The wife must serve her husband in serving the house, and the husband must serve outside the house.
