Which is better: congregational prayer at home with one's wife or with someone who has an excuse, or individual prayer in the mosque, in the event that the congregational prayer at the mosque has been missed?

If a congregational prayer is missed at the mosque, it is better to perform it in congregation at home with one or more people, as this is superior to performing it alone in the mosque. This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "A man's prayer with another man is purer than his prayer alone, and his prayer with two men is purer than his prayer with one man, and the more numerous they are, the more beloved it is to Allah." However, if a person is in one of the three preferred mosques (Al-Masjid Al-Haram (definition), Al-Masjid An-Nabawi, Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa), it is better for him to pray alone there, even if he could find a congregation at his home, because praying alone in these mosques is superior to congregational prayer elsewhere.
