If a number of funeral (prayer)s are presented to the Imam, how should he pray over them?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Sunnah concerning multiple funeral prayers is to place the man closest to the Imam, then the boy, then the woman. This is supported by the action of Umm Kulthum and her son, the testimony of the Companions that this is the Sunnah, and what Al-Bayhaqi narrated from Ibn Umar concerning his action. A group of Companions, Tabi'in, and فقهاء (jurists) adopted this view.

However, if the deceased are of the same gender (e.g., all men), then the most virtuous is placed first, meaning the most knowledgeable, the most pious, or the one who knows more of the Qur'an.
