What is the interpretation of Allah Almighty's saying, "And We made your children a trial"?

The meaning of wealth and children being a fitnah (trial/temptation) is that they are a test and an affliction from Allah. For some people, wealth and children increase their righteousness and uprightness, while for others, they lead to arrogance and distract them from obeying their Lord. That is why Allah, the Exalted, said: "O you who have believed, let not your wealth and your children divert you from remembrance of Allah. And whoever does that - then those are the losers." And in the Hadith (definition): "Indeed, children are a cause of miserliness, cowardice, ignorance, and grief." So, children are often a cause for their father's miserliness, his cowardice in taking initiative, and his falling into ignorance.
