Is it true that Omar prayed for Saad ibn Ubadah to be killed on the day of Saqifah, and then assassinated him in Sham thereafter?

There are two interpretations of the statement by Umar ibn al-Khattab, "May Allah kill Sa'd ibn 'Ubada": either it is a report indicating Sa'd's neglect and their disregard for him after his attempt to gain leadership, or it is a supplication against him, uttered in anger due to Sa'd's stance and fear of discord. As for the circulated claim that Umar killed Sa'd, it is false. It is well-known that Sa'd died in Syria, and it was said that the jinn killed him.
