What is the ruling on the prayer and fasting of one who doubts her purity after the cessation of menstrual blood, with the continued presence of a yellowish discharge and not seeing the white discharge (al-qassah al-bayḍā’)?
A woman recognizes the end of menstruation by one of two signs: dryness (the cotton swab comes out clean), or al-Qassah al-Bayda' (a white discharge resembling plaster). Whichever of these signs appears first, she must perform (ritual bath). A yellowish or brownish discharge after seeing the sign of purity is not considered menstruation. However, if it is connected to blood, it is considered menstruation. If a woman sees dryness but does not perform ghusl, and continues to see a yellowish discharge, she remains in a state of menstruation until fifteen days are completed. After that, she becomes in a state of (non-menstrual bleeding), and reverts to her previous habit.
