Why is the supplication to abandon sin answered with delay? Is it not supposed to be answered immediately?

A supplication to abandon a sin may be answered quickly or it may be delayed. Repentance is obligatory immediately, and there is no excuse for delaying it. Rather, hastening to repent from sin is an immediate obligation and it is not permissible to delay it. Whoever delays it disobeys by that delay.
