Will the merchant whose money has become mixed with that of banks and others be forgiven, given that he wishes to rectify the situation but cannot do so immediately?

Whoever has his money mixed with unlawful earnings, such as usury or trading in prohibited items, must estimate the unlawful portion and spend it on the welfare of Muslims so that his money becomes purified. If he is unable to remove all of the unlawful money except with extreme hardship, then he must remove what he can, and the remainder stays as a debt upon him until he is able to remove it. He must immediately cease the prohibited activities through which this money was acquired, and this is a condition for the validity of repentance.
