Did the early scholars interpret all the verses, and are there verses that were not interpreted due to their clarity?

The early exegetes did not leave a single verse without interpreting it, clarifying it, and deriving rulings from it. Although understandings varied, the Messenger did not interpret some verses because they posed no difficulty for the Companions. Exegetes after the first era rendered great service to the Quran through various interpretative approaches, such as focusing on tradition (ma'thur) or on legal rulings. The Quran remains a wellspring from which people of knowledge draw.
