What is the ruling on working at a gas station that sells cigarettes?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Selling cigarettes is forbidden (haram). If your work at the station is not related to selling cigarettes, then there is no harm in working there. Otherwise, it is forbidden. The owners of the station should be advised regarding the impermissibility of selling cigarettes, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Religion is an-Nasiha (sincere advice)," and his saying: "Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he is unable, then with his tongue; if he is unable, then with his heart — and that is the weakest of faith."
