What is the Islamic ruling regarding not speaking to the father after he has physically assaulted the mother, while continuing to serve and obey him? Is it permissible for the mother to live separately from the father, despite not being divorced? What is the reward in the hereafter for her patience and endurance?

A father who oppresses his wife and abuses her violates Allah's command to treat one's spouse kindly, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The best of you is the best to his family."

It is permissible to denounce the father's injustice towards your mother and to protect her, but it is not permissible to completely abandon him. For the father's right is great, and his injustice does not nullify his right to kindness and companionship in a befitting manner. It is not lawful for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three days, so how much more so for abandoning parents, whose right Allah has linked to His own right.

If the father does not provide his wife with the obligatory maintenance or beats her severely, it is permissible for her to leave his house and move to a safe place. Her patience with his injustice, seeking the countenance of Allah, is a great righteous deed. She may also take her case to court to prevent him from harming her and to compel him to provide maintenance, or she may seek a divorce due to harm.
