The question

Does thinking about wishing for exorbitant wealth and luxury while committing delicious forbidden acts for the heart contradict contentment and submission to God's decree, and is it permissible to go to a psychiatrist to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder despite the existing caveats?

The answer

Mere thoughts and inner monologues are forgiven and Allah does not hold one accountable for them, as long as they do not become settled and one does not persist in them. This is based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Indeed, Allah has forgiven my Ummah for what they whisper to themselves, as long as they do not speak of it or act upon it." There is no harm in seeking treatment from a psychiatrist, while believing that healing is by the power and will of Allah, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "For every disease there is a cure, and if the cure for the disease is found, it will be cured by the permission of Allah."
