What is the ruling on seeking fame in worldly matters? Is it considered a sin or shirk (polytheism)? Can the intention of fame initially acquired for worldly purposes be changed to become purely for the sake of Allah? Is fame considered a permissible means if used for worldly matters, and does it transform into a righteous deed by adding the intention of worship?

The pursuit of fame is reprehensible because it corrupts a person's efforts toward their Lord. It can also be one of the hidden ailments that lead to loving people's praise and leadership. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, likened a person's eagerness for wealth and honor to the corruption caused by two hungry wolves sent into a flock of sheep. This indicates the gravity of loving fame.

The truthful believer prefers obscurity and humility, and Allah loves the pious, self-sufficient, and hidden servant. However, if fame is attained without seeking or striving for it, there is no blame, but the intention must be corrected. If fame results from an illegitimate action, then that action must be ceased, and the fame should be utilized for good and for spreading the truth, while rectifying the intention and making the work sincere for Allah Almighty.
