Is working in the maintenance of printing presses at Al-Ahram newspaper, which prints various newspapers, including Islamic ones, forbidden by Islamic law?
The basic principle is that working in printer maintenance is permissible, unless these printers are used to print what is forbidden, such as subversive ideas, images of unveiled women, or advertisements for alcoholic beverages, due to the Almighty's saying: "And do not cooperate in sin and aggression." The fact that they are also used for permissible printing does not change this, for two reasons:
1. In this case, their maintenance is a sure means to forbidden use, and Allah has forbidden the pretexts that lead to sins.
2. If benefits and harms come together and the harms are predominant, then warding off harms takes precedence over acquiring benefits.
