The relationship between spouses should be based on kind cohabitation. The husband's right over his wife is great, and she is commanded to obey him in what is good, especially concerning intimacy, unless she has a valid excuse. If the wife is obedient to her husband, then forcing her into intercourse and ignoring her need for intimacy, along with the psychological harm this inflicts upon her, constitutes unkind cohabitation and injustice towards the wife. The wife has a right for her husband to protect her chastity, enable her to fulfill her needs, and to be gentle and playful with her before intercourse. A husband's domination over his wife's private property is impermissible. The wife is advised to counsel her husband towards good cohabitation, explain what the Shari'ah commands, and encourage him to treat psychological deviation by strengthening his connection with his Lord, attending knowledge gatherings, and keeping company with righteous people.
