Is it permissible to cremate a body after death, and does the deceased feel it?

It is not permissible for a person to bequeath the burning of their body after death, because cremation is forbidden (haram), and a bequest involving something forbidden is not allowed. Scholars have cited the Prophet's (peace be upon him) hadith as evidence for this prohibition: "Breaking the bone of a deceased person is like breaking it when they were alive," which indicates the impermissibility of harming the deceased's body, and burning is even more forbidden. As for the feelings of the deceased, that is among the matters of the unseen, but some scholars have used the same hadith to infer that the deceased feels pain and senses what happens to their body.
