The linguistic meaning of worship ('ibadah) is submission and humility. Worship combines perfect love with perfect humility. Anyone who submits to other than Allah or loves something forbidden and becomes attached to it, has in him a degree of servitude to it. As for Taghut, it is anything by which a servant oversteps his bounds, whether it be something worshipped, followed, or obeyed. The worship of Taghut is submission and humility to it, such as obeying and following it, fearing it, hoping in it, and loving it instead of Allah.
