Some commentators mentioned differences between (Alif Lam Ra) and (Alif Lam Mim Ra). Some believe that (Alif Lam Ra) means: "I am Allah, I see," and (Alif Lam Mim Ra) means: "I am Allah, I know and I see." Others mentioned that its meaning is: "I am Allah, the Sovereign, the Most Merciful," or that it refers to the Torah. Various statements regarding its meaning have been narrated from Ibn Abbas.
