Is it permissible to give charity to a mother and her son, knowing that the mother committed adultery and was a victim of deception, and her family and the man with whom she committed adultery abandoned her?

Charity given to disobedient and immoral individuals is permissible, and the giver will be rewarded for it. It is preferable that charity be given to the righteous and people of good, but it is also permissible to give it to the immoral person and the disbeliever, based on the Almighty’s saying: “And they feed food, in spite of love for it, to the needy, the orphan, and the captive.” The captive may be a combatant. This is also supported by the Hadith narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim about a man who gave charity to a thief, a female fornicator, and a rich man. He was told: “As for your charity to a thief, he might refrain from his stealing; and as for the female fornicator, she might refrain from her fornication; and as for the rich person, he might take heed and spend from what Allah the Almighty has given him.”

The female fornicator must be reminded and advised, and it should be clarified to her that fornication is one of the greatest major sins. Her belief that pregnancy will not result does not diminish the ugliness of her act. If she repents and becomes righteous, then giving charity to her may be more appropriate to prevent her from resorting to sin again due to need. The family of the female fornicator must spend on her and are not allowed to disown her. As for the son of the female fornicator, he is innocent and blameless, and he is like other people regarding charity.
