Is it permissible for a fiancée to meet another suitor with the intention of marriage if she believes he is more committed than her current fiancé, or must she first break off the engagement?

You are not permitted to meet or receive the second man until you have broken off your engagement to the first. He is also not permitted to propose to you if he knows that you are engaged, due to the prohibition of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "None of you should propose over the proposal of his brother." Some scholars have gone as far as to say that it is not permissible for a woman or her guardian to withdraw from an engagement if the reason for withdrawal is another suitor.
