What is the ruling on studying at an institute that attacks Ibn Taymiyyah and Al-Albani, and to what extent does Salafism differ from Ash'arism, and is it similar to jurisprudential differences, and what is the opinion regarding scholars such as Ibn Hajar and Al-Nawawi?
The disagreement between the Salafis and the Ash'aris is not in the ancillary jurisprudential issues, but rather in fundamental principles where disagreement is not permissible. As for Ibn Hajar, Al-Nawawi, and Ibn Al-Jawzi, they are among the great scholars of the Ummah. What they differed in from the methodology of the Salaf by agreeing with the Ash'aris on some issues are considered slips, and do not make them Ash'aris absolutely. Rather, they are from Ahl Al- in what they agreed upon with the Salaf. The Permanent Committee for Issuing Fatwas has refuted the claim of their deviance or the impermissibility of supplicating for mercy upon them, and affirmed that they erred in interpreting the attributes while being among the great Muslim scholars through whom Allah benefited the Ummah. Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymeen warned against absolute disparagement of them and pointed to the immense benefit of their works to Muslims. In conclusion, it is advisable to stay away from institutes that disparage the scholars of Ahl Al-Sunnah.
