Yellowish and brownish discharges are considered menstruation if they occur during the customary period or if they are connected to menstrual blood after it has ceased. Any brownish discharge seen before the blood is not considered menstruation unless it occurs during the customary period. Menstruation is the blood and whatever yellowish or brownish discharge is connected to it. If brownish discharge is seen during the customary period, and then blood and brownish discharge follow it, and the duration exceeds fifteen days, it is considered istihadah (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding).
