To what extent is it valid to use the Noble Qur’anic verse: "And [mention, O Muhammad], when Allah took the covenant of the prophets, saying, 'Whatever I give you of a Book and wisdom...'" and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "That is the day I was born therein," as evidence for the permissibility of celebrating the Prophet's birthday (Mawlid)?

One should refer to Fatwas No. (31773, 45383, 30976, 38730, 34217) to learn the ruling on celebrating the Mawlid (Prophet's birthday). The noble verse only emphasizes affirming belief in the Messenger, supporting his Sunnah, and avoiding innovation in religion. The authentic prophetic hadith does not imply making the day of the Mawlid an Eid to be celebrated, because an Eid day is not for fasting, and because the righteous predecessors did not celebrate it. Had there been any good in it, they would have preceded us to it.
