Polygyny is permissible in Islamic law for a man, up to four wives, provided he can maintain justice. He is not obligated to inform his wife or seek her permission, though it is recommended for him to do so as a gesture of honor and to reassure her. He must deal justly between his wives. The wife is not obligated to accept the other wife residing in her private dwelling.
