Did the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, fast on the ninth and tenth days, or only on the tenth day?

If the question is about fasting on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, fasted on the 10th and commanded its fasting. He also resolved to fast on the 9th in the following year, but he passed away before that. In Sahih Muslim, it is narrated from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, fasted on the Day of Ashura and commanded its fasting, and he said: "If I live until the next year, Allah willing, we will fast on the ninth day," but he passed away before the next year arrived.
